Description

Department of Defense Information School Website.

This is currently where I'm stationed, and after 6 years they finally decided to update their site, and I was volunTOLD to lend a hand. :) As lead visual designer.

I didn't do the programming, it was actually hand coded by some old skool IT folks who hate change :)

This isn't the final vision I presented, but about 80% of what I proposed. There are other features to be implemented later, to include a search bar for example.

So far I've had nothing but positives from my co-workers.

If you have questions about color, depts or whatever feel free to ask, just be assured that none of the decisions were made on a whim. Everything is a certain way for a reason that is clear to those familiar with the school and/or site.

You can find the full site here:
http://www.dinfos.osd.mil
The BMIC Course (where I teach) here:

NOTE: I noticed on my home comp I had to hit REFRESH after first load....eh...growing pains :p
NOTE 2: Screenshots from work comp. You don't think I use Explorer do ya? ;)

Oh, those ugly captions on the photos were the result on prepping for the new photo crop sizes..(wider)

....ugly yes, but not my idea.

You'll notice that's been taken care of since the screenshots were taken.

Very nice and decent design, a big improvement. A little bit playful. Took some time to load, but I'm not sure if this is the connection. The guy who decided to change the pictures every few seconds should be shot on sight.
I miss the logo as home-button.
A personal sidenote: the perverted irony in the slogan "Strength through Truth" makes me vomit.

Great improvement. Pretty damn sweet. It almost looks like a Flash page because it looks so clean and compact.

@Thorsten

'Perverted Irony'...hardly.

I totally agree about the picture changes...again not my idea. In the end there are high ranking officials that have the final work (with no design experience)

The motto stems from the fact that the school is the home of Public Affairs, Combat Camera, Journalism etc etc. I can say that the principles are updstanding to a rediculous degree...what happens outside the school is another story.

huge improvement you've made to that site...I'm a big fan of non scrollable pages...of course, the design is very tight and professional, excellent work!

Nice one Brett. And I think it does look much improved.

Great job. The new layout reflects the fact that DINFOS is the home of the DOD's Graphic Artists.
